Press release

3 April, 2023

APRIL 2023 - England’s legend on the rails, the British Pullman, A Belmond Train, England announces a roster of enthralling new journeys and exceptional dining experiences for the 2023 season (March - December): from an unparalleled immersive Moving Murder Mystery; a series of ‘pop-up’ dinners with acclaimed female chefs, presented in harmonious partnership with Dom Pérignon; to new journeys championing  dining experiences with produce directly from Kent, the ‘Garden of England’.

AN ELEVATED MOVING MURDER MYSTERY

A long-standing favourite, the British Pullman’s Moving Murder Mystery has been remastered in partnership with world-class immersive entertainment curators Private Drama Events. The journey now carefully intertwines the train’s illustrious heritage and the great British intrigue for a whodunnit in a captivating theatrical production, brought to life with actors from London’s famed West End.

As guests step onboard and soak up the British Pullman’s storied surroundings, they will be transported to 1951, when ten enigmatic characters, named after each of the train’s plush carriages, are visiting London for the Festival of Britain. Comfortably seated in their armchairs, with a chilled glass of champagne in hand, guests will soon understand things are not quite what they seem: there has been a murder on the train. The intimate setting of the British Pullman’s art deco carriages heightens the suspense as guests are invited to interview and interact with the suspects in an attempt to crack the case.

Combining timeless luxury, glamour and a dash of adventure, this reinvigorated journey will keep passengers intrigued as they enjoy a sublime five-course lunch championing seasonal and high-quality produce from Kent and England, by the train’s Head Chef, Jon Freeman.

FEMALE-LED MICHELIN-STARRED CHEF DINING SERIES, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DOM PÉRIGNON

A highlight of the British Pullman’s annual gastronomic calendar, this year the ‘pop-up’ dining series, in collaboration with prestigious champagne Maison Dom Pérignon, will see for the first time an all-female line-up of some of Britain’s most decorated chefs. Opening the series on 23 June, Lisa Goodwin-Allen, one of the UK’s most innovative chefs at the Michelin-starred Northcote Hotel & Restaurant, Lancashire will take on the challenge of cooking for 120 guests in the confines of the train’s moving kitchens. Head Chef and owner of Chelsea’s Myrtle Restaurant, South Dublin native Anna Haugh will draw on her homeland’s rich heritage and present her contemporary Irish fine dining menu to British Pullman’s guests on 14 July.

On 29 September, Chef-Patron of Michelin-starred restaurant, Murano, Angela Hartnett OBE will take the stage and let guests into her sophisticated Italian-inspired culinary world. On 20 October, Michelin-starred Spanish chef, Nieves Barragán Mohacho, of Sabor restaurant, will showcase specialities from across the different regions of Spain, as the art-deco carriages wind their way out of London on an enchanting round voyage through the English countryside. Guests are invited to indulge in each guest chefs’ tasting menus, perfectly paired with both Dom Pérignon and the sommelier’s choice of wines.

ALL EYES ON KENT: NEW EPICUREAN JOURNEYS IN THE ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE

The new ‘Garden of England’ journey invites guests to discover the pinnacle of quintessential British countryside, with a route around the county of Kent. Epicureans will delve into seasonal, local flavours over a creative five-course menu devised by British Pullman’s Head Chef, Jon Freeman, championing produce sourced from the very farms and fields by which the train passes.  The finest English sparkling wines, such as Gusbourne Blanc de Blanc and Balfour Brut Rosé, will complement each of the five mouth-watering courses along with the sommelier’s choice of red and white wines.

The summer 5-course menu features an entrée of Coronation Guinea Hen with apricot chutney, crispy shallots, Highgrove mustard and coriander dressing or Coronation Cauliflower, followed by Sevenscore Farm asparagus soup with charcoal croutons. As guests admire the views through the picture-windows, a main course of Line-caught Wild English Seabass with white haricot beans, roasted red peppers, Tempus chorizo, and heirloom tomato broth, dressed in herb oil will be served. Vegans and vegetarians have the option of a Roasted pressed aubergine with summer truffle, confit heirloom tomato, haricot beans, roasted red peppers all dressed in basil oil. Before indulging in the refreshing Coconut dacquoise dessert, guests can taste a selection of Kentish cheeses accompanied by Longhedge Farm chutney, fruit bread and crackers. To close the lunch in style Pump Street chocolate and a selection of coffees and teas will be served.
