Belmond announces a year of celebratory journeys for British Pullman

Press release

28 March, 2022
Belmond announces a year of celebratory journeys and memorable culinary events for its iconic UK day train, British Pullman, A Belmond Train, England. From a dedicated Jubilee weekend, to the line-up of award-winning chefs for this year’s ‘pop-up’ dinner series, 2022 offers guests an extraordinary British day out.

A ROYAL WEEKEND
To commemorate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, British Pullman will host a weekend of majestic celebrations. On 5th June 2022, as part of the Afternoon Tea menu guests will have the rare opportunity to sample Windsor Great Park Sparkling Wine, from Her Majesty’s own Estate; Windsor Great Park Wine. The wine served at Buckingham Palace is produced in limited quantities and is crafted from the classic champagne grape varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

With the Epsom Derby a key highlight of the Queen’s calendar, British Pullman will also be transporting guests to the famed sporting event for a celebratory day at the races on 4th June 2022. Guests can choose from two different ticket options including exclusive lunch by Michel Roux Jnr at 'Chez Roux' or tickets for The Views offering panoramic views of the track and finishing post.

ALL EYES ON BRIGHTON
This year, British Pullman will be heading to the iconic British seaside town of Brighton for two famed events. The first, of special interest for those with a keen interest in rail history, will see the train mark the 50th anniversary of the final journey of the historic Brighton Belle, hosted by journalist, broadcaster, former politician and renowned railway enthusiast, Michael Portillo. Epitomising the glamour of 1930s train travel, the Brighton Belle was the first electric Pullman service in the world and was a much-loved favourite of day trippers visiting the popular coastal resort. On 30th April 2022, guests will embark on a journey reminiscing through time, complete insight into the train’s star-studded history through an engaging talk from Michael Portillo, inside a viewing pod of the soaring British Airways i360 Viewing Tower, a Brighton landmark affording panoramic views of the vibrant city and coast.

In celebration of the city’s 30th annual Pride Festival (6th August 2022), the locomotive hauling the British Pullman will be wrapped in a vibrant rainbow flag - providing the perfect backdrop for pictures, before guests enjoy a ‘Drag Brunch’ with the stars of hit TV show Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Guests can sit back and soak up the energy as the outrageous queens – Cheryl Hole, Vanity Milan and Kitty Scott-Claus – make their way through the carriages for a theatrical experience like no other, before arriving in Brighton for the famed Pride Parade.

CELEBRITY CHEFS SERIES
A highly anticipated part of the luxury train’s annual calendar, the ‘pop-up’ intimate events see just 140 guests invited on board British Pullman for an exclusive dinner hosted by some of Britain’s most decorated and revered chefs.

After making his debut on the train last year, Ollie Dabbous, executive chef of Hide, one of London’s hottest Michelin-starred restaurants, will return to much acclaim on 24th June. Having recently been awarded three Michelin stars at his prominent restaurant, L’Enclume, Chef Simon Rogan is set to host an incredibly special dinner on 15th July, reflecting his philosophy of hyper-seasonal, ‘farm to table’ cooking. On 23rd September, Paul Ainsworth of Number 6, Padstow fame, will be joining the train for the very first time, and rounding out this exceptional roster of culinary talent will be Tom Aikens of London’s Muse restaurant on 7th October 2022.

As the train passes through the British countryside, guests will be served a bespoke menu by their personal stewards and will have the chance to meet their favourite chef as the train travels on a circular route from London Victoria’s Station.

A LUMINARY COLLABORATION
For 2022, British Pullman will partner with social enterprise, and Vogue’s #ForcesforChange organisation, Luminary Bakery on all of the train’s Afternoon Tea journeys. Luminary, a social enterprise bakery, was founded by women for women and nurtures a vibrant hub of creativity and community while teaching disadvantaged individuals valuable life skills. The partnership will take place in association with award-winning pastry chef Claire Clark MBE and her team at the high-end patisserie Pretty Sweet, who will create an array of sweet and savoury treats on journeys throughout the year.

As a memento of the journey, each couple will receive a bespoke copy of Luminary Bakery’s 'Rising Hope' cookbook, and a contribution to Luminary will also be made by Belmond for every Afternoon Tea ticket sold.
