This year, Belmond will further its connection with the contemporary arts community with the expansion of MITICO; an artistic series in partnership with the renowned international art gallery, Galleria Continua - with the inclusion of seven Belmond hotels across the globe. Following the success of the first edition in Italy last year, the legendary property La Residencia, in addition to continuing their relationships with local artists, will unveil a sculpture created by the winner of the 2022 Venice Biennale that will reside in the hotel´s lush gardens. Surprises are in store at the beginning of May.
Additionally, and also in collaboration with Galleria Continua, La Residencia will soon reveal three artists who will be taking part in the revised ‘Artists in Residencia’ programme 2023. The winners will be chosen by a committee of experts and create an artwork that will be exhibited on property. Each two-month residency programme will give artists a room and studio at La Residencia, a monthly living grant, as well as production funding.
For the 2023 season, La Residencia is thrilled to announce Spanish Chef Pablo Armando Aranda Moreno at the helm of fine dining restaurant El Olivo, overlooking the surrounding dramatic Tramuntana mountains. Pablo Aranda is a young yet accomplished Chef with Michelin-star experience and a passion for Km 0 cuisine. He begins this role with the intention of continuing the hotel’s sustainable efforts. The chef has already created a new tasting menu with local ingredients at the heart of each dish.
To further heighten the culinary offer of the hotel, a complete renovation of the pool restaurant took place during the Winter, helmed by the local company More Design. They achieved an elegant yet natural and homely setting within a laid-back atmosphere.
The Tramontana Grill, open to outside guests in the evening, will be the only place in Deià where guests can enjoy local market cuisine prepared in a Josper oven, which has become a legend in the world of charcoal gastronomy.
Other significant renovations have been focusing on the hotel´s dedicated team, such as staff quarters and changing facilities. General Manager, Thomas Moons, firmly believes that “if you don´t look after your personnel, you don´t gain the right to look after your guests”. Guided by this principle, the Belgium leader of La Residencia is making a consistent effort to ensure the environment and tools are provided for his team in order to get to the “next level” and convert Deià´s intimate mountainside enclave into the best hotel in Spain by 2024.
As far as active and curious travellers are concerned, the hotel not only continues to offer a colourful cultural offer including musical concerts and art exhibitions but also a broad variety of customized outdoor experiences like guided hiking tours, Petanque and yoga classes, as well as tennis and cycling activations. The latter will involve two tailor-made Sports weekends with athletes from both the tennis and cycling world. Stay tuned!
