Press release

19 March, 2020
This year, to celebrate the best of the English summer, Belmond introduces four new journeys to the ‘Great British Seaside’, on board British Pullman, ABelmond Train, England. With the train reopening on 19th May 2021, the 1920s and 1930s vintage carriages will visit the iconic seaside towns of Margate, Broadstairs, Whistable and Hastings for the first time. The new journeys hark back to the Golden Age of Travel and the popularity of the first holidays to the seaside by train.

“We are delighted to be reopening British Pullman in line with the government roadmap on 19th May 2021. We wanted to celebrate this by creating some exciting new journeys which will allow friends and family to come together and enjoy a breath of fresh seaside air in these historic and iconic seaside towns.” comments Gary Franklin, Vice President, Trains & Cruises, Belmond.

A GREAT DAY OUT
The circular journey from London’s Victoria Station will see guests settle into their Art Deco carriages to enjoy a sparkling bellini and a three-course brunch before exploring free time at the chosen seaside town. Guests can opt for a brisk swim in the sea or a stroll along the promenade to the town’s iconic attractions. At the end of the day, guests will be welcomed back to the train for a three-course dinner on the journey home.

OYSTER SHUCKING AND BEACH-HUTS IN WHITSTABLE
For oyster aficionados, Whitstable's heritage needs no introduction. With a history in fishing and shipbuilding, the 19th-century harbour is still a fully working port. On 13th August 2021, guests can stroll along the pebbled beach, watching the life from the beach huts and stopping for famed oysters at The Whitstable Oyster Company before heading back to the train.

JOIN THE FESTIVITIES IN BROADSTAIRS
The charming seaside town of Broadstairs offers seven sandy beaches and unspoilt streets. On 21st August 2021, British Pullman will travel to Charles Dickens’ favourite holiday spot for a day trip to one of Kent’s most iconic beaches. Guests can stroll the cliff top and discover unique shops and local restaurants whilst overlooking the breathtaking beach.

A DAY OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN MARGATE
On 19th June 2021, the train will take Art Lovers to the vibrant seaside town of Margate. Known for its sandy beach and the world-class Turner Contemporary gallery, the 250 year old holiday destination has seen a rejuvenation in the past decade. Boasting a dynamic old town, vintage cafes and a traditional seafront, guests can visit Kent’s oldest art gallery, Lovelys or the mysterious Shell Grotto during their time in Margate.

A HISTORIC VISIT TO HASTINGS
Hastings’ turn in the spotlight is on 11th September 2021, when passengers can travel back in time to the location of the legendary 1066 battle. Steeped in history, today guests can take in the fresh sea air from the modern observatory or explore the delights of the recently renovated pier which won the Stirling prize for architecture in 2017.
