The Caruso, in collaboration with IF Unique Art Experience, is embracing cultural discovery with exclusive and highly immersive experiences connected to the world of art and archaeology.
A special program of tailored, unmissable activities that go beyond the traditional idea of discovery, ideal for travellers looking for new ways to immerse themselves in new discoveries, broadening their outlook on the world.
Luxury in the Ancient World
The archaeological wonders of the Vesuvius area are certainly some of the most fascinating that we have inherited from the past. Pompeii is indisputably the most visited archaeological site in the world, but what makes its excavations exceptional is not so much their scale, but the fact that they enable us to discover a unique example of an ancient city and to observe its urban structure, which has remained frozen and unaltered over the years. Herculaneum and Oplontis also represent an invaluable part of our cultural heritage. Beyond the sites that we already know and celebrate there is a whole universe of secret underground wonders that are off limits to the general public and are waiting to be discovered by the most curious visitors.
Our ‘Luxury in the Ancient World’ experience invites guests to experience an authentic immersion in the sophisticated world of luxury in ancient Campania, where Roman villas along the Mediterranean coast proudly competed to be ever more opulent.
Three archaeological treasures, normally not accessible to the public, will be exclusively opened to guests, who will be offered an insight into our ancestors’ habits and curious rituals.
The Suburban Baths of Herculaneum are an ancient Roman spa buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Guests will have a unique opportunity to discover this fascinating site, which features an original structure, perfectly preserved over the centuries by the volcano’s lava, with paintings, floor mosaics and statues. Recent discoveries in Pompeii
Excavations in Pompeii have continued over the years, unearthing peerless works of art. During an exploratory archaeological journey, guests will have access to the site’s most recent and fascinating discoveries: from the Domus del Frutteto and the Termopolio, still decorated with their original, well-preserved frescoes, to the perfectly intact processional chariot of Civita Giuliana. The Theatre of Herculaneum is an ancient Roman theatre buried in 79 AD by the eruption of Vesuvius. This perfectly preserved, captivating place displays the unique imprints of statues buried by the volcano’s lava.
The mysteries of Naples
The city of Naples is a Pompeii that has never been buried. It is not merely a city, but a whole world. The ancient, pre-Christian world has remained intact on the surface of the modern world. During this experience, guests will embark on an atmospheric journey through the vibrant heart of this mysterious southern capital in search of its incredible heritage. They will discover ornate catacombs, richly frescoed chapels and ancient rituals, all revealed by an expert guide.
The visit includes exclusive access to the following fascinating sites: the Girolamini Library, the Catacombs of Saint Gaudiosus and the Pio Monte della Misericordia church.
Curiosity Circle : “The Golden Hour”
The Curiosity Circle is an original three-day immersive retreat experience with experts in a wide range of fields, from the creative directors of major fashion brands to musicians, artists and performers. During each retreat, guests will be involved in transformative activities that redefine the concept of learning from teachers. Every retreat will be tailored around a specific theme related to the surrounding area. The Curiosity Circle is therefore a quest for inspiration and personal growth, offering unique opportunities to learn, share, and most importantly, interact with extraordinary people.
From 14 to 17 October, the Caruso will host the Curiosity Circle devoted to the art of jewellery at the time of Oplontis. The Greek and Roman civilizations made unrivalled advances in goldwork, creating extraordinary jewellery using highly sophisticated techniques. On this unique three-day retreat, guests, accompanied by a renowned jewellery designer and his creative team, will witness the entire creative process of making original gold jewellery using ancient techniques such as ‘granulation’ or the ‘lost-wax process’. The retreat will include exciting private tours, talks, and hands-on workshops. With this project, Belmond will also contribute to the preservation and promotion of the Ori di Oplontis, a unique collection of ancient jewellery that is still not on public display.
