MAY 2024 – Casa de Sierra Nevada, A Belmond Hotel located in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, is delighted to announce the upcoming launch of ‘Tunki Talks,’ a series of engaging talks spotlighting the perspectives of interesting thought leaders in the art and fashion worlds. Taking place at Tunki Rooftop by Handshake, which boasts breathtaking vistas of one of the world’s most magical cities, the series will draw inspiration from the creative spirit of San Miguel de Allende, with each talk examining different topics through the lens of art, fashion, and culture.

 

Upcoming events part of the ‘Tunki Talks’ series at Casa de Sierra Nevada, A Belmond Hotel, San Miguel de Allende will include:

 

GLADYS TAMEZ | JUNE 7, 2024 AT 5:30 PM

Gladys Tamez is founder of Gladys Tamez Millinery, born out of her long love affair with hats that grew out of her upbringing among the corridas and traditions of Northern Mexico. Utilizing art, sculpture and historical fashion as visual narratives, the celebrated milliner creates original and exciting designs. Imparting individual confidence through design is at the heart of what keeps Gladys engaged and passionate in her work. Gladys has shown for over 24 seasons in Paris and is sold in Asia, North America and Europe with online clients spanning the globe, in addition to her Los Angeles retail space. Her clients are both men and women who are looking for added value, cutting edge design and work of the highest quality. All her designs are handmade by craftspeople in the workshop and retail space where house artisans continue the tradition of millinery savoir-faire techniques. Gladys and her team work with many stylists and costume designers in Hollywood and has become the go-to hat maker for many in the business, with an extensive celebrity clientele from all creative fields.

Gladys will zoom in on everything from her conceptual process and inspiration that informs each collection and how she approaches designs for her individual clients, to her journey in becoming a milliner and what it means to create a true luxury heritage product. 

 

EDUARDO RINCON | JULY 5, 2024 AT 5:30PM

Eduardo is a Mexican artist based in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Originally initiating his formal education as a Biologist, Rincon ultimately devoted himself fully to the study of nature through the arts. Actively working as a painter and cultivating the arts of engraving and drawing, in recent years, the celebrated artist has fused his personal research in plant biology with art projects using contemporary installation and sculpture, in addition to landscape design with nature and endangered species. Immersing himself in the forest is an integral part of Rincon’s work, where he collects raw materials for his works, such as clay, leaves, fruits, and seeds. 

Eduardo will discuss his creative process and how he draws inspiration for his works, beginning with long walks in nature, along with his background in tropical plant research, passion for the environment and use of raw materials.

 

JEFFRY WEISMAN | AUGUST 9, 2024 AT 5:30PM

Jeffry Weisman is Co-Founder of Fisher Weisman, a creative collaboration between Weisman and Andrew Fisher, which designs memorable interiors, furniture, and lighting from both their San Francisco and San Miguel de Allende studios. In addition to selling to trade through a network of showrooms in the US and Mexico, Fisher Weisman has a stunning gallery in the historic center of San Miguel de Allende that showcases the Collection as well as Fisher’s art and jewelry designs. Fisher Weisman is not only renowned for its exquisite designs but also for its commitment to social responsibility and community empowerment in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Fisher Weisman Collection plays a pivotal role in supporting local artisans, particularly women without childcare, by providing opportunities to work from home while caring for their families. Inspired by Andrew Fisher's studio artwork, Fisher Weisman Collection’s iconic pieces blend indigenous materials like wood, sisal rope, and papier mâché with traditional craft techniques such as gilding and hand-cast bronze. However, Fisher Weisman's creative spirit lies in the collaborative efforts with local artisans, who infuse each piece with their skill and passion.

Weisman will share background on how Fisher Weisman came to be, their approach to design, how they continue to evolve and expand, and their deep respect for Mexico and its people, elaborating on how they are bridging cultures and committing to making a positive impact on the lives of local artisans.
